EDUC -5373 Week 2 Blog


 

Technology integration plays an essential role in enhancing the teaching and learning experiences of students as they engage with digital resources. In developing an integration plan for the school community, teachers, technology coordinators, and administrators will be the main stakeholders at the initial phase.

Recently, the school district has launched a new initiative to partner with Apple Education Community to train educators to incorporate Apple devices to enhance classroom technology, curriculum, and for project-based learning.

As part of the Apple Education Innovation team and one of the main contacts, I will organize professional development training sessions that will be ongoing for educators to stay updated with technology trends and tools. Regular feedback from educators and students will be conducted to monitor and evaluate the impact of technology integration.  Additionally, having educators work collaboratively by organizing joint projects and sharing best practices presents a structural opportunity that the school community can learn together and build capacity to implement the plan.

In implementing the T3 framework, teaching efficiency and productivity of how technology minimizes educators’ workload, accessibility, and equality of digital learning resources, effectiveness of digital tools, students’ level of engagement and frequency and ways of usage of technology are focus areas that will be assessed for feedback to garner information on the progress of the innovation plan to enhance students’ learning experience. 

The T3 technology framework for innovation resonates with me. This model is used by educators to engage students as they delve into curriculum content. It comprises of three domains, namely translational, transformational, and transcendent. Educators in my school community can use translational technology as automation and consumption in instruction. Digitalizing tasks that are traditionally paper-based and creating them into Google Forms, Padlet,  Quizzez, Kahoot, and Google Slides presentations are examples of ways in which educators can utilize the automation component of the translational stage of the T3 model. This is an efficient way in which educators to be better prepared for instruction delivery and have students exposed to various forms of digital resources.

Engaging students with technology such as websites, interactive programs, and informational videos as they do a deeper dive into content areas to maximize their learning experience enhances how educators can guide and tiered their instructions. This will impact the ways in which digital resources are consumed by students as they navigate information that contributes to their own learning.

For the transformational stage of the T3 model, educators will facilitate students as they use technology to demonstrate their learning and contribute to the learning of their peers through collaborative work. Students can be given opportunities during instruction to use technology to produce group tasks that show their understanding of a particular concept or topic.

Transcendent technology use is the third stage of the T3 model in which teachers can have students interact with digital resources in an authentic way that enables them to think critically,  solve issues, and create solutions that extend beyond the classroom. Students can utilize technology such as blogs and podcasts for sharing digital stories and other content, for coding projects for all subject areas, and for creating apps and other learning platforms that enable others to learn and find solutions to real-world challenges. The final stage of the T3 framework use of technology has the advantage of impacting a global audience and providing learning opportunities from a multi-cultural population.

Implementing the T3 technology integration framework plan within the school community will definitely impact the learning experiences of educators and students.

  1. I can see a lot of parallels between the T3 model and the Triple E model which I am going to focus on (Engage, Enhance, Extend). Both focus on how technology can be used not just as a simple replacement for paper, but as a way to expand on that and provide additional opportunities for engagement and activities such as research, similations, and creative and collaborative projects. Both also address how the learning can expand beyond the four walls of the classroom as well. I think that is a good point about engaging a multi-cultural population too, since you can find a much wider variety of cultural resources online than you can in static paper resources.

  2. I love your school district's new partnership with Apple Education Community. The T3 framework is changing how we teach with technology. I believe this program will prepare our students for their digital age. I can not wait to see your professional development plan.

  3. I find it so interesting how schools/districts either become an Apple or Google school. There are probably some Microsoft schools thrown in their for good measure. I, too, like the T3 model and agree with JMS regarding how it aligns with the Triple E model. I hope you have greater success than my district has been with moving educators beyond the translational stage. It's so easy to get into it and feel like you are doing something great with technology for the students, but it's really just surface level work.
